The simulation to the left shows a number of 'creatures' interacting with one another. The creatures are all attracted to one another, and try to match up in terms of travelling speed and direction. From these fairly basic rules, a continually varied set of patterns can be developed. Sometimes the flocking behaviour will settle into a rut for a while, but it can suddenly flip out of it into another state. Other rules can be developed, with groups of creatures trying to flock together, avoid one another, etc. Follow the links below for some variations on the basic 'boid'.
